As you head down from the open and lofty dining room into the lounge, we wanted to emphasise the atmospheric & tactile change in spatial experiences. The cooler silver tones of the restaurant's entrance & stairwell lead the guests into a darker, richer, tactile world lit by fire & candlelight. There the lounge is formed of earthy tones, with deep browns, blacks, clay, and mineral surfaces creating an enveloping intimacy.

The material palette takes its cues from the restaurant’s heritage, grandeur, and quiet exclusivity. Materials such as Norwegian Larvikite, golden brass, subtle flashes of steel and warm chocolate-toned oak are combined with soft textiles and leather to create layers of tactility. The ambition was to create something more personal than a conventional restaurant lounge, more akin to a lived-in lounge where furniture, curious objects and materials have accumulated over time. This led to a collection of unique ceramics, vintage pieces, and glowing lamps, where no two are the same.

Bespoke furniture became an important element in creating the feeling of a collected space, featuring more personal pieces one would not typically encounter in a restaurant. Working closely with sister studio Jenkins & Uhnger, we developed and tested lounge and side tables at full scale before being produced in Norway. Within the lounge groupings, the primary goal was to create intimacy while allowing for more flexible seating group configurations.

Armchairs and sofas designed by Andreas Engesvik, produced by Fogia, are upholstered in rich, earthy bouclé, while soft brown leather armchairs designed by Sigurd Resell, produced by Matre, merge two Norwegian design eras of new & old seamlessly into one space. Across the lounge, steel chairs reflects the warm glow of brass oil burners and soft, hidden table lights.

Ultimately, the lounge serves as a final chapter to the meal, an intimate space made for lingering over the last drinks and bites of the evening.
